24 Hours to Homer, Alaska
We flew from Minneapolis to Anchorage and then stayed overnight near the airport. The next day, we basically hung out near the airport until late in the afternoon when we took a small plane to Homer (when you checked in, they asked you how much you weighed :-)
Homer is nestled on the shore of Kachemak Bay, a funnel-shaped fjord 40 miles long and 24 miles wide in the Cook Inlet region of south central Alaska.
Homer is the Halibut Fishing Capital of the world and the evidence of commercial and tourist fishing is everywhere.
This morning when we got up, the clouds had lifted and we got our first glimpse of the mountains.
The fishermen were all heading out for their days' work.
We meet up shortly with our Backroads hiking group!
Wow - Looks like a fantastic journey! Dave and I have loved our wildlife adventures to Kodiak Island, Katmai pensinsula (grizzlies) and Homer (eagles). We can't wait to hear about your adventures - enjoying vicariously thru your awesome blog. Thanks for sharing! - Kim
